There are two main methods to distribute your power over a large area in a commercial or industrial setting. The first option is using standard wire and conduit. The second option, which we will focus on here, is using busway, or bus duct as it is often called. Busway is defined by the National Electrical
Manufacturers Association (NEMA) as a "prefabricated
electrical distribution system consisting of bus bars in a
protective enclosure." The bus bars can either be made from
aluminum or copper.
The two types of bus duct are plug-in and feeder. Plug-in
busway is used in applications where power requirements are
distributed over a large area. Using plug-in units called
bus plugs, load connections can be added
or relocated easily. Plug-in busway is for indoor use
only.
There are two main ways that using bus duct instead of wire and conduit can save you and your company money; initial savings, and future savings. Many people don't realize that not only does a busway system save you money up front, but also down the road as your business expands, adapts or moves. Read More
